Bare Bones

A deliberately flat, simplified texture pack. Removes visual noise without removing detail. Popular for PvP and for players on low-end hardware who still want a clean look. Not a vanilla-plus pack — it changes the style significantly.

What Bare Bones does

Bare Bones strips Minecraft textures down to their essential shapes and colors. No gradients, no noise, no texture variation. Grass is one flat green. Stone is one flat grey. The goal is clarity — you see the block shape, not the surface detail.

This is not a "better looking" pack in the traditional sense. It is a different aesthetic. For PvP, the flat colors make it easier to spot players and items against the terrain. For builders, the simplified textures make large structures read more clearly.

What to expect

  • Flat colors — no gradients or noise on most blocks.
  • Simplified items — tools and weapons have minimal detail.
  • 16x resolution — same as vanilla, but visually simpler.
  • Low performance impact — no extra texture memory.

Installation

  1. Download the ZIP for your edition from the official Bare Bones website or CurseForge.
  2. Place the ZIP in .minecraft/resourcepacks. Do not unzip it.
  3. In-game: Options > Resource Packs. Move Bare Bones to the selected column.
  4. Click Done.
Not vanilla-plus: If you want a pack that looks like vanilla but better, use Stay True or Faithful 32x. Bare Bones is a deliberate departure from the vanilla look.

Frequently asked questions

Is Bare Bones good for PvP?
Yes. The flat textures make players and items easier to see against the terrain. Many PvP players use flat packs for this reason. It does not give a competitive advantage in the game's code, only in visual clarity.
Does it improve performance?
Not significantly. It is 16x resolution, same as vanilla, so texture memory usage is similar. The performance benefit comes from visual clarity, not from reduced rendering load.
Does it work on Bedrock?
Yes. Bare Bones has a Bedrock version available on its official site .
