Architectury API

An intermediary API aimed at easing multiplatform mod development. If a mod supports both Fabric and Forge, there is a good chance it needs Architectury. Over 351 million downloads on CurseForge [citation:7].

What Architectury API does

Minecraft has two major mod loaders: Fabric and Forge (with NeoForge as a newer fork). A mod that wants to support both normally has to maintain two separate codebases. Architectury API solves this by providing a shared abstraction layer that both loaders understand.

For players, this means one download works across loaders. For mod developers, it means writing the mod once instead of twice. Architectury does not add content or change gameplay — it is infrastructure that other mods depend on.

What it provides

  • Cross-loader event system — mods can register events that work identically on Fabric and Forge.
  • Registry abstraction — blocks, items, and entities are registered through a unified interface.
  • Networking layer — packet handling that works on both loaders without loader-specific code.

Installation

  1. Install the loader required by the mod that depends on Architectury.
  2. Download the Architectury API JAR from CurseForge for your loader and Minecraft version. Note: Forge and Fabric builds are separate files [citation:7].
  3. Place it in the mods folder alongside the dependent mod.
  4. Launch the game. Architectury does not appear as a separate menu item.
Loader-specific builds: Architectury API has separate JARs for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, and Quilt. A Forge build will not load on Fabric. Check the filename on CurseForge — it usually includes the loader name [citation:7].

Frequently asked questions

I installed Architectury but the mod still crashes.
Check the loader and Minecraft version. Architectury builds are tightly versioned. A build for 1.21.1 will not work on 1.21.4. Also confirm you downloaded the correct loader build (Fabric vs Forge vs NeoForge).
Do I need Architectury on a server?
If the dependent mod is server-side or needs to sync data between client and server, yes. If the dependent mod is client-only, Architectury may only be needed on the client. Check the dependent mod's page.
Does Architectury work with other libraries like Cloth Config?
Yes. They serve different purposes and do not conflict. Cloth Config handles config screens; Architectury handles cross-loader compatibility. Install both if your mods require them.
